Paulo Costa Takes Shot At ‘Fake’ Champion Israel Adesanya

At UFC 236, Israel Adesanya and Kelvin Gastelum left it all inside the Octagon. Both the fighters showed incredible resolve and heart, putting on one of the best fights of the year. At the end of the day however, there could only be one winner, and “The Last Style Bender” walked out of Atlanta as the interim UFC middleweight champion.

Immediately after the fight, Israel Adesanya has received praise from the fans and fighters alike. The current UFC middleweight champion Robert Whittaker congratulated Israel via Twitter, and said he would see him soon. While the MMA community gushed over Israel Adesanya’s performance yesterday, one man wasn’t impressed.

Paulo Costa, who was originally scheduled to fight Yoel Romero, but backed out, saying he did not have enough time to prepare for Romero. While certain rumours have been making rounds about Costa being in the hot seat with USADA, nothing has been confirmed as of this writing.

Costa instead took to Instagram after the event yesterday, and called Israel a ‘fake champion’.

“Really this is the interim (fake) champ? Hahah”, Costa wrote. “No doubt this weight division has already been better than this sh*t. Enjoy this while you can man, I really hope that you take the real belt one day to meet me. Note: And I’m not the Gastelum.”

Adesanya is expected to fight Whittaker next to crown the undisputed middleweight champion.
