Sean O’Malley Predicts A First Round Knockout Against Eddie Wineland

UFC bantamweight star Sean O’Malley retained his perfect record at UFC 248, by defeating Jose Alberto Quinonez via spectacular TKO. He is now set to fight the experienced Eddie Wineland this weekend at UFC 250.

‘Sugar’ told BJPenn.com that he considers the former UFC interim title challenger to be a perfect opponent for him at this point.

“I think it is a perfect opponent for me right now in this stage of my career,” O’Malley said. “Wineland is a decent size name so I think it is a good matchup for me. I’m excited about the fight, I think it’s the perfect fight and I’m happy about it.”

Although the 25-year-old is well aware of the popular criticism that he hasn’t beaten any big names, it doesn’t seem to bother him at all.

“I don’t care at all,” O’Malley said. “Eddie is a dangerous dude, I have to take him seriously. If you are in the UFC you are tough.”

Nevertheless, O’Malley is confident, as always, that he will get the flashy first-round knockout.

“All my fights I see a first-round knockout,” he said. “I’ll be too fast for him and anyone that steps in the cage with me. Every fight prediction is a first-round knockout. I just think the way I’m going to go out there and finish him will be pretty spectacular.

“I’m planning on another viral knockout. That last knockout over Jose was decent. I want a signature Sugar knockout like the ones that go viral and make people jump out of their seat.”

If he beats Wineland this weekend, O’Malley is expected to get a ranked opponent for his next fight, but he said the pay cheque will be a major factor.

“It doesn’t matter to me. I’ll talk with the UFC. But, if they are going to pay me the same amount to fight a really, really, really good guy as someone out of the top-15, I’ll pick the easier guy. It depends on how this fight goes. I’m not looking past Eddie.”

O’Malley is focused on his target at UFC 250, and wants to show everybody that his skills are supreme.

“It sounds silly when I say this but I think I have the best footwork and striking in the UFC and I’m ready to prove it. I get to go out there and show how good I am, as I know I am.”

In recent months, it has felt like every rising bantamweight in the UFC has called out O’Malley. And ‘Sugar’ Sean can understand why.

“They are doing what they need to do, they don’t have a thing that makes people want to watch so they are calling out the person who does. They are calling me out because I have the eyes on me. I get it. When I was out I was called out by nine people. If I keep winning and they keep winning I’m sure we will eventually meet,” he concluded.

Do you think Sean O’Malley will get the first-round knockout finish against Eddie Wineland this weekend?
