Sean O’Malley To Return At UFC 239

It didn’t take long for ‘Sugar’ Sean O’Malley to get a fight booked, following news that the 24 year old is eligible to fight again.

Two days ago, we reported that O’Malley and three other UFC fighters, had all received reduced six months suspensions from the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) for testing positive to osterine. The reduced suspensions were due to there being no evidence of intentional use of osterine and the amount being so small, that contaminated supplements were to blame.

O’Malley’s suspension was retroactive to September 19th of last year. Meaning ‘Sugar’ can fight immediately. You can read more about the suspensions and see USADA’s statement, here.

In a tweet immediately after the news broke, O’Malley tweeted “I’m freeeeee. July 6th I’m busting someone up”. Moments ago, ESPN’s Ariel Helwani confirmed that O’Malley will be fighting on July 6th. The former Dana White’s Contender Series winner, will face Marlon Vera at UFC 239, in Las Vegas.

O’Malley, who boasts a 10-0 unbeaten record, last fought just over a year ago at UFC 222, where he beat Andre Andre Soukhamthath. As well as being suspended for six months, O’Malley has spent a lot of that time injured. Following the nasty foot injury he suffered in his last fight, the bantamweight star has also had surgery on his hip.

Vera is coming off of a first round TKO win over Frankie Saenz, last month at UFC Nashville. The win was his third straight win.
