Seven ONE Championship Women’s Fights To Make In 2021

As we welcome in the new year, 2021 promises to deliver more epic fights. There were a lot of interesting matches in the women’s divisions last year, and we can expect even more fun matchups from ONE Championship this year. Here are seven women’s matchups to make in 2021.

1. Ritu Phogat vs Mei Yamaguchi

If there’s any ranked athlete who would be a good test for Ritu Phogat, it’s Mei Yamaguchi. There’s no question that the Indian wrestling champion has top-tier wrestling skills; they’re what have led her to a 4-0 start in her MMA career. But the Japanese veteran also boasts pretty extensive grappling skills, that could potentially frustrate ‘The Indian Tigress’. Of her eleven finishes, nine have come by way of submission. The Evolve MMA representative is coming off a dominant TKO win over Jomary Torres at ONE: Big Bang. Potentially earning her a place in this year’s ONE Atomweight World Grand Prix. And this would be an ideal first round opponent for the 26 year old.

2. Stamp Fairtex vs Meng Bo

Having accumulated a 5-0 record in her MMA career, Stamp Fairtex has put herself in a strong position to grab a spot in the ONE Atomweight Grand Prix. Should she make the cut, Meng Bo would make the perfect opponent. The Chinese 24 year old holds a win over UFC strawweight champion Zhang Weili, and sits at number two in the ONE atomweight rankings.

Meng showcased her dangerous boxing skills when she knocked out Priscilla Hertati Lumban Gaol at ONE: Inside The Matrix 2. The number five ranked Stamp has shown throughout her young MMA career that she is a well-rounded striker, given her Muay Thai background. So expect there to be fireworks if these two ever step into the ONE Circle together. This could possibly be the greatest striking showcase the atomweight division has ever seen.

3. Jihin Radzuan vs Lin Heqin

The number three ranked atomweight Lin Heqin scored an impressive triangle choke submission win over Jomary Torres in her ONE debut at ONE: Reign Of Valor. This is something she has in common with Jihin Radzuan, who pulled off the same submission against the Filipina at ONE: Masters Of Destiny. At only 22, ‘The Shadow Cat’ already has give wins to her name inside the ONE Circle. While ‘Fighting Sister’ is currently on an eleven fight win streak. This would make another ideal ONE Atomweight Grand Prix matchup.

4. Denice Zamboanga vs Seo Hee Ham

After three dominant wins inside the ONE Circle, the most recent of which came against Watsapinya Kaewkhong at ONE: A New Breed, Denice Zamboanga seemed poised for a shot at the ONE atomweight title. That was until ONE CEO Chatri Sityodtong announced the ONE Atomweight Grand Prix, where the winner would challenge Angela Lee for the title. ‘The Menace’ will have to win this tournament in order get her title shot against ‘Unstoppable’, who is currently expecting her first child.

And what better opponent for the Filipina 23 year old than new ONE signing, Seo Hee Ham? The 33 year old South Korean is a decorated fighter in her own right, having won the RIZIN super atomweight title and Road FC atomweight title. Ham will probably pose as Zamboanga’s biggest challenge in the ONE Atomweight Grand Prix.

5. Xiong Jingnan vs Ayaka Miura

Tiffany Teo showed huge improvement in her rematch against Xiong Jingnan for the ONE strawweight title at ONE: Inside The Matrix. But it looks as though she has more work to do if she wants to get that belt. So in the meantime, Ayaka Miura would make for a worthy challenger. While her most recent outing saw her lose to Teo at ONE: King Of The Jungle, she picked up three straight submission wins against Laura Balin, Samara Santos, and Maira Mazar prior to this. So if there’s another threat to ‘The Panda’ and her title, it should be the Japanese fighter. It’ll be the grappling of Miura against the striking of Xiong.

6. Allycia Araujo vs Stamp Fairtex 2

The last time Allycia Araujo and Stamp Fairtex threw down, things were razor close. But it was the Phuket Fight Club representative who went home with the ONE atomweight Muay Thai title. Both fighters left their fair share of damage on each other. This leaves the possibility that the 23 year old Thai can reclaim the title in a second fight. Fans would also love to see the two run it back. Regardless of who wins, it would still be one of the most entertaining women’s ONE Super Series contests of the year, given how skilled the both of them are.

7. Janet Todd vs Kai Ting Chuang 2

Kai Ting Chuang hasn’t fought since losing to Janet Todd via majority decision at ONE: Masters Of Destiny in July 2019. Since then, ‘JT’ picked up two more wins on the way to becoming the ONE atomweight kickboxing champion. Fun fact: ‘Killer Bee’ was the inaugural ONE atomweight kickboxing champion before losing the title to Stamp Fairtex. And while she hasn’t won since July of 2018, she is third in the atomweight kickboxing rankings. With the first fight between them being so close, a rematch makes a lot of sense.

  1. I would imagine that many of the AW MMA fights mentioned will take place in the tournament. Is there any word as to who all will be participating and if so, will they be seeded? If so, I would imagine that the odds favor Denice and Seo Hee facing each other in the finals.
