Shinya Aoki Wants To Keep Doing Martial Arts Forever

Japanese mixed martial arts legend Shinya “Tobikan Judan” Aoki embodies the core values of ONE Championship, values such as discipline, integrity, humility, courage, respect, honour and compassion.

Aoki prefers to live a simple life as a martial artist who does not see himself as a famous figure but rather he prefers to be seen as a regular person just like everybody else.

“I do not like being called a legend” Aoki said.

“I just want to be an ordinary person, especially outside the ring or cage.”

The former ONE Lightweight World Champion prefers to spend his time working out and training to be a better athlete. He also picks casual outfits that would not make him stand-out.

“I’m at my happiest when I’m concentrating on being a martial artist” Aoki said.

“Beyond that, I walk about wearing t-shirts and shorts.”

Aoki is given a chance to take back the ONE Lightweight World Title from former conqueror Eduard “Landslide” Folayang when they meet head on at the center of the ONE cage on 31 March at the Ry?goku Kokugikan where they headline ONE: A NEW ERA.

Prior to his professional career as a mixed martial artist, Aoki worked as a policeman.

Though he could have become a great law enforcer, he was not happy with what he was doing and longed for the days when he was back at the gym training and competing. So after three months, he left his post and pursued his chosen career.

“If I could just train all day and do martial arts, that would be awesome” Aoki said.

“I do not want to work in a regular job, I just want to concentrate on martial arts.”

Today, he is well-revered all over the world for his amazing accomplishments in the sport of mixed martial arts. Many of his fans call him a legend, whether he agrees with them or not.

Aoki’s fans couldn’t be happier with his dedication to constantly perform at his best in the cage. We continue to witness one of the best submission artists in the sport, an art the “Tobikan Judan” wishes to continue for the rest of his life.

“I want to keep being a martial artist for as long as possible. I want to keep doing it forever.” Aoki concluded.
