Tony Ferguson Teases Fight Announcement

If there is one fight that needs to be made in the upcoming months, it has to be Khabib Nurmagomedov vs Tony Ferguson, for the UFC lightweight title. And just maybe an official announcement is just around the corner. In the last few hours, Ferguson has taken to social media to tease his fans that a fight announcement is imminent.

2019 started a little rocky for Ferguson, with reports that his wife had filed a restraining order on him, with there being concerns with his mental health. However, ‘El Cucuy’ returned to the Octagon in June at UFC 238 and put in another memorable performance, like he had never been away. The win over ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone not only earned Ferguson a Fight of the Night bonus but was also the 35 year old’s twelve straight win inside the Octagon. All but three of which coming via a stoppage.

Khabib is coming off a second successful title defence, stopping the interim champion Dustin Poirier, in the third round of their main event at UFC 242 earlier this month. The win took Khabib’s professional record to 28-0. Following UFC 242, UFC president Dana White, confirmed that Tony will get the next shot at Khabib.

The pair have been scheduled to meet four times in the past but each time, disaster has struck and the fight has been cancelled. The most recent occasion being at UFC 223 last year, where Ferguson tripped over some cables while carrying out some media obligations in the lead up to the fight, and tore his fibular collateral ligament in his knee.

Last week, Ferguson called out Khabib for a fight at UFC 245 but with there already being three title fights on the card and Khabib stating that he will never fight in Las Vegas again, it’s safe to say that they won’t be fight on the last UFC pay-per-view card of the year.

Khabib stated earlier this week that he is 80% sure that his next fight will be in Russia and with Ferguson teasing of an imminent fight announcement, could the UFC be about to confirm that Khabib will defend his lightweight title against Ferguson early next year in Russia?
