Tyron Woodley Makes His Pick For Mike Tyson vs Roy Jones Jr

Boxing legends Mike Tyson and Roy Jones Jr. are set to come out of retirement and face each other in a heavyweight match on November 28. Although it is being labeled an ‘exhibition’, both men have expressed how serious they are taking the fight. Among those predicting how the fight will go is former UFC welterweight champion, Tyron Woodley.

Tyson took the world by storm when he announced his return to the ring against former boxing legend Roy Jones Jr. Both legends agreed to an eight-round exhibition bout regulated by the California State Athletic Commission. The fight — originally planned for September — was postponed to allow more people to tune in for one of the most iconic events in modern boxing.

Speaking on the Real Quick With Mike Swick podcast (as transcribed by The Body Lock), Woodley said he believes Tyson’s power will be the deciding factor in the contest.

“I’ve studied them so much,” Woodley said. “I’ve watched so many films, so many fights with both of them. I think if Mike Tyson touches anybody, they’re going down no matter how old he is. I just don’t see him not touching Roy at some point in the fight.”

Woodley believes that Jones’ best bet is to outlast Tyson and tire him out, although the former UFC titleholder does not think either fighter will outlast the other in the cardio department.

“I don’t want to take one,” Woodley said of Tyson’s power. “No college prank on Earth is worth dying. It’s a punch that the most terrible pedophile criminals on Earth should have to stay there and let Mike Tyson punch them one time. If they go, they go — that’s how serious his punch is. I agree with you for the exact same reason — the life-changing power that Tyson has.

“He (Jones) could try and gas out Tyson but I don’t see him being in that much better shape either, you know?”

Despite only being an exhibition bout, watching two of the best boxers in history compete is certainly a treat for fight fans around the world. The contest — labeled by Tyson as the greatest comeback in boxing history — will be one of the biggest events in an already outstanding year for combat sports.

Do you think Mike Tyson’s power will give him the edge against Roy Jones Jr., as Tyron Woodley predicts?
