Tyson, Usyk And Ortiz Discuss Mayweather vs Paul
Boxing legend Floyd Mayweather is set to face YouTube sensation Logan Paul in an exhibition bout on February 20th.
The 50-0 professional boxer last competed in an exhibition boxing bout at RIZIN 14 two years ago against Tenshin Nasukawa, winning the fight via a first round TKO. Paul, on the other hand, made his professional boxing debut in 2019 against fellow YouTuber KSI, losing the fight via split-decision.
The oddsmakers are not giving Paul much of a chance, with Mayweather a huge favourite going into the fight. But professional boxers have a slightly different point of view.
Mike Tyson
Speaking on Logan Paul’s Impaulsive podcast (as transcribed by Bloody Elbow), former heavyweight boxing world champion Mike Tyson predicted a Mayweather win, but said that the YouTuber is going to fight back nonetheless.
“Floyd will beat his f***ing ass,” Tyson said. “But it’s gonna be good. It’s gonna be good, he’ll fight back though.”
Oleksandr Usyk
WBO inter-continental heavyweight titleholder Oleksandr Usyk told The Sun that he also favours Mayweather, but warns him against complacency.
“As for whether it is dangerous, I think that if a boxer relaxes and gets hit it may be dangerous for him,” Usyk said. “Mayweather should be composed and play his game until the end. If he wants to it may be dangerous and if he doesn’t it will be okay.”
Victor Ortiz
While Tyson and Usyk have voted in favour of Mayweather, former welterweight champion Victor Ortiz, who is helping Paul prepare for the fight, told MMA Fighting that he believes the 25 year old is going to give ‘Money’ trouble.
“I know what I know, and I know what I see,” Ortiz said. “What I’m saying, in a sense, is that he will give Floyd trouble. He’s a dear friend, and I believe in him. I’m telling you, it’s going to be an interesting fight. I’ve talked to him about Floyd a few times. … I give him the simple things: ‘Floyd is Floyd, but you’re unstoppable. You’re on another level.’ I strongly believe Floyd will have trouble. Logan can box, and he has power, reach speed, and he can move now.”
