UFC 242: Khabib Nurmagomedov Vs Dustin Poirier Made Official

UFC 242 in Abu Dhabi just got its main event, and it is a barn-burner. While everyone expected Poirier and Khabib to face each other for the undisputed title, no one wanted to get carried away. However, UFC announced just a while ago that Khabib Nurmagomedov will finally return to the cage — the first time since his dominant performance against Conor McGregor at UFC 229 — and will face the interim lightweight champion, Dustin Poirier.

Dustin defeated Max Holloway earlier this year to win the interim championship. However, with Nurmagomedov threatening UFC to sit out until the end of the year, no one was really sure about Khabib’s next title defense. With NSAC reducing his teammates’ suspensions however, positive news was expected from Khabib’s camp, and that is exactly what happened.

Khabib’s coach, Javier Mendez recently took to social media, saying, “I have to change to fight is not official yet????? but I am Excited to start camp with the ? @khabib_nurmagomedov should it become official for Sept 7th @ufc Abu Dhabi against a very tough challenge in Dustin Poirier. But at end of that Night?????it will be and Still.”

With the announcement, the main event for UFC 242 is now set in stone. Khabib goes into the event without having been defeated, while Poirier goes in on the back of consecutive wins against the likes of Max Holloway, Justin Gaethje and Eddie Alvarez.
