UFC 243 Finally Gets A Venue

Earlier this month, the UFC announced that Robert Whittaker would defend his middleweight title against the interim champion Israel Adesanya, at UFC 243 on October 5th. The announcement didn’t include a venue though. Only that it was likely to be either in Australia or Las Vegas.

Well, now we finally have venue for the biggest MMA fight in Australasia history. The Marvel Stadium in Melbourne, will be the setting for this huge card.

Moments ago, Whittaker announced the venue on Instagram.

The Marvel Stadium has a capacity of over 50,000 and has a retractable roof. The Stadium previously hosted UFC 193: Rounda Rousey vs Holly Holm, in 2015. Although it was called the Etihad Stadium then.

It is believed that the Australia’s Alex Volkanovski will also feature on the card, challenging for the UFC featherweight title, against the winner of this weekend’s main event between the champion Max Holloway, and Frankie Edgar.

This past weekend, following his knockout of James Vick at UFC San Antonio, New Zealand’s Dan Hooker called out Al Iaquinta, for a lightweight showdown at UFC 243. To which ‘Raging Al’ replied on Twitter that he loves Australia.

UFC 243 was always going to be a huge night but now it’s been confirmed for Melbourne, Australia, it really will be an unforgettable night. Particularly for that part of the world.
