UFC 264: Khabib Predicts Dustin Poirier vs Conor McGregor 3

Khabib Nurmagomedov has given his thoughts on the upcoming trilogy fight between Dustin Poirier and Conor McGregor, set to headline UFC 264 on July 10th.

McGregor came out on top in their first encounter at UFC 178 in 2014, when he needed less than two minutes to get the job done. Poirier emphatically avenged the loss at UFC 257 in January however, when he earned a second round finish.

The third fight between the two has a lot on the line, as the winner is likely to go on to challenge Charles Oliveira, who won the vacant lightweight title by stopping Michael Chandler at UFC 262

Khabib’s Prediction

Speaking to UFC Russia (as translated by RT.com), Khabib said that while McGregor has the edge early on in the fight, he believes that Poirier will take the honours if the fight goes beyond the first round.

“It’s the same thing [as the previous fights],” Khabib said. “If it’s the first round, I’d back Conor. From the second and further, then Dustin [wins].”

The UFC’s lightweight division is often regarded as the most talented in the promotion, and Khabib believes that’s in part because it’s represented by some of the best fighters from all around the world.

“It’s a nice composition of the division,” Khabib said. “The Brazilians, if you look at Oliveira and [Rafael] dos Anjos. The Americans are well represented. Poirier, [Justin] Gaethje, Chandler.

“You could say it’s like a world war, the Brazilians, the Americans, the Russians. This division has always been the most interesting and the strongest. It will be fun by the end of the year.”

Do you agree with Khabib Nurmagomedov’s thoughts on the upcoming Dustin Poirier vs Conor McGregor trilogy?
