UFC: Colby Covington Hits Out At Jorge Masvidal And Dustin Poirier

Former UFC interim welterweight champion Colby Covington has once again hit out at his former American Top Team team mates, Jorge Masvidal and Dustin Poirier.

No Response From Masvidal

UFC president Dana White said in September that Covington versus Masvidal “is the fight to make” in the welterweight division. ‘Chaos’ has since said that he has been offered the fight but his former best friend has turned it down.

Speaking to Submission Radio (as transcribed by MMA Junkie), Covington said that he’s ready to fight Masvidal any time.

“I’m good to go on my end,” Covington said. “I’m ready to go. I gave them my verbal [agreement], and I’m a man of my word. I’m gonna show up and do what I do best, that’s win and fight hard, [and] put on a show for the fans around the world.”

But Covington is yet to hear a word from Masvidal, who he accuses of wanting “easy” fights instead of fighting the number one ranked contender in the division.

“Getting Jorge ‘Street Judas’ Masvidal on board is a whole other story,” Covington continued. “The guy, I mean, he’s got no options, and he thinks he’s gonna fight Conor [McGregor], he wants the easy fight with the ‘soy boy’ Nate Diaz. The guy is desperate right now. You don’t want to fight the number one guy in the world? I’m the number one guy in the world.”

Not So ‘Gamebred’

Masvidal has not fought since losing to the reigning welterweight champion Kamaru Usman at UFC 251 in July. A win against the his former friend and teammate could set him up for another title shot. But by going silent, Covington believes ‘Gamebred’ is losing his credibility.

“Where’s he at now? Now you haven’t heard a peep out of him. He’s completely silent,” Covington said. “I think it’s going to show the fans the truth, and he’s gonna lose all that street cred. All that street cred for being a badass mother f***er, for being a street king and a street fighter, and just the baddest dude who would show up at any time. He’s losing all that credibility by the day, because he’s nowhere to be found.”

Masvidal Doesn’t Want To Get Embarrassed In Front Of The Whole World

Covington trained with Masvidal at ATT for over ten years, before changing camps to MMA Masters due to his growing rift with several team members, including Dustin Poirier and Joanna Jedrzejczyk. Colby claims Jorge doesn’t want the fight because he doesn’t want to face the same “embarrassment” with the whole world watching.

“There’s a reason he doesn’t want to fight me, because he’s experienced this fight before,” Covington said. “He knows how this fight plays out, and he doesn’t want to get embarrassed in front of the whole world. So, he’s in hiding right now.

“They (the UFC) said it was gonna be a tough task because he doesn’t want to fight you. They pretty much told me that he plain and simple told them that he doesn’t like the style matchup. You’re in the UFC fighting the best fighters in the world, you claim to want to be the best in the world, and you don’t like a style matchup? Like, what is this, The Real Divas of Atlanta? What are we doing? I thought we were the Ultimate Fighting Championship, not the Ultimate Feelings Championship. That’s why he’s never been the Ultimate Fighting Champion. He’s been nothing more than a broken mediocre fighting champion.”

Conor McGregor vs Dustin Poirier 2

McGregor and Poirier are scheduled to fight in the UFC 257 main event next month. The two fought previously at UFC 178 in 2014, with ‘The Notorious’ winning via first round TKO. When asked how he thinks the rematch plays out, Covington predicted the Irishman will knock him out in the first round again.

“All I can say guys, is you guys make sure you got the Kleenex ready at the press conference, because you know Dustin ‘Sorry-ier’ is gonna break down on the mic, he’s gonna cry to the world, get everybody to feel sympathy and feel bad for him,” Covington said. “He’s gonna get sparked again in the first round, because he’s completely washed up and has no chin anymore, and no heart. It’s not gonna be competitive. I think Conor’s just gonna spark him first round. Just get the Kleenex ready, cause Dustin’s gonna be crying up a storm at the press conference and getting everybody to feel bad for him. ‘Wah-wah, feel bad for me, I didn’t accomplish my dream’.

“Yeah, cause you’re a bitch. You didn’t work hard enough for it. What is up with society these days? People think that everyone should get a participation trophy. Dustin needs his safe space. Go in your safe space, Dustin.”
