UFC: Conor McGregor And Kamaru Usman Engage In War Of Words

Although he’s booked to fight Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 on July 10th, Conor McGregor has made his intentions clear that he plans to move up to welterweight and dethrone the division’s champion, Kamaru Usman.

Usman extended his title reign by viciously knocking out Jorge Masvidal with a huge straight right hand in their welterweight title rematch in the UFC 261 main event. After the fight, McGregor took to Twitter and claimed that ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ took a page out of his book to earn the stoppage win.

With his rubber match with Poirier locked in, and one eye on the upcoming lightweight title headliner between Charles Oliveira and Michael Chandler at UFC 262, McGregor has a lot to prove at 155lbs. But the Irishman warned Usman that once he successfully handles business in his division, he will come for him.

A few hours later, Poirier suggested that the pair should compete at welterweight for their upcoming trilogy, since they have already fought at featherweight and lightweight, but McGregor was quick to reject the idea.

Having finished Masvidal this past weekend, Usman has now stopped his last three opponents. While McGregor has lost two in a row at lightweight, against Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 229 and Poirier at UFC 257. ‘The Notorious’ was finished on both occasions, something the Nigerian was quick to point out.

McGregor then changed the course of the conversation and asked Usman to reveal details about the mysterious ‘undisclosed injury’ that forced him out of his scheduled title fight with Gilbert Burns at UFC 256.

Usman responded by accusing McGregor of dodging him.

But the Dublin native was quick to level allegations of his own, accusing Usman of taking performance enhancing drugs.

Justin Gaethje, who trains with the welterweight champion under Trevor Wittman, also jumped into the conversation and warned McGregor that Usman would knock him out in a potential fight.

McGregor responded by posting a previously unseen photo of him posing with Gaethje during his featherweight days, which he discovered on a fan page.

Would you give Conor McGregor a chance against Kamaru Usman?
