UFC: Corey Anderson Responds to Jon Jones, Anthony Smith Messages

Taking to social media yesterday, UFC light heavyweight championship Jon Jones revealed who he wanted to face next. Saying that he had a coaches meeting to determine who was the more worthy challenge to his reign, mentioning two names – Corey Anderson and Dominick Reyes. Unfortunately for Anderson, ‘Bones’ said the latter was a ‘more dangerous’ opponent and therefor he wanted him next.

Shortly after, Anderson responded to the declaration.

Although there is no official word yet from the UFC that Jones will defend his belt against Reyes at the timing of this writing, it appears that Anderson is going to be relegated back to the bench and have to wait for his turn.

Many fans have called for Anderson to face Anthony Smith next, but ‘Overtime’ shot down any possibility of a match up with former number one contender, who had called him out after his first round knockout of Johnny Walker in UFC 244.

Speaking on The Luke Thomas Show (as transcribed by The Mac Life), Anderson popped the bubble of idea that he’d meet ‘Lionheart’ inside the UFC Octagon.

“I have no interest in fighting Anthony Smith, I called Anthony Smith out after I fought at [UFC] 232, and he answered back like two minutes later and said no, so now this time, he got to wait.”

Corey strongly believes that he has earned his stripes to rightfully challenge Jones for the UFC 205lbs title, and reiterated the fact that he’s beaten some of the best athletes in his division.

“I don’t see anyone in front of me. That’s the point. I beat Jan Blachowicz, I’ve beat everybody that’s fought for a title. I beat all of these guys, you know? Just give me my due, and I’ll let my manager figure out the rest of it. I’m just here to fight. I’m going to train and I’ll be ready.”

Who do you think Corey Anderson should face next?
