UFC – Daniel Cormier to Stipe Miocic: Sign the Contract!
One of the most highly anticipated trilogy fights in MMA history promises to determine who (in the UFC, at least) is the ‘baddest man on the planet.’ But a rubber match between Daniel Cormier and Stipe Miocic has yet to materialise, even after considerable back-and-forth. Speaking on his own podcast with Ariel Helwani, ‘DC’ vented some of his frustrations with Stipe and demanded that he defend his belt sooner rather than later.
“Come on, champ: sign the contract. Let’s go! Like, what are you doing? It’s nonsense. I get that you’re a firefighter…we admire that…but you’re also the champion of the world. Let’s get this thing done. Sign the contract!”
‘DC’ went so far as to post his rant to Twitter and tagged Stipe in the video to ensure his message was delivered loud and clear.
“This time I’m not gonna get tired and you’re not just gonna punch me in the stomach for five minutes. I beat him up so bad in the first round, I lost respect for him.”
In their last match, Cormier battered Miocic badly in the opening rounds before the tide of the fight turned dramatically. Stipe found success with a left hook to the body that he deployed over and over, stopping Cormier at the end of the fourth. Nonetheless, ‘DC’ claims he will come out on top in the third fight due to the simple fact that he is a superior martial artist (as transcribed by The Mac Life).
“I’m a better fighter than Stipe Miocic,” Cormier claimed . “I respect him, I think he’s a great guy, I think he’s a great role model, but I’m better than him. I just want to go prove it. I should’ve never lost to him. That is going to be one of my greatest regrets.
“I lost to Jones, but he was better. Stipe Miocic is not better than me, and that’s going to be something I regret for the rest of my life, is letting him get a victory over me. It should’ve never happened.”
Though a trilogy fight would be exciting for hardcore as well as more casual fans, it appears that the fight will take place on Stipe’s timeline, with his responsibilities as a front-line worker taking precedence during the coronavirus pandemic.
Who do you think is the favourite in this rubber match, Stipe Miocic or Daniel Cormier?
