UFC: Dustin Poirier Is Only Interested In Big Names Or Title Shots

At just 31 years of age, Dustin Poirier has managed to become one of the most entertaining fighters in the game. Win or lose, ‘The Diamond’ delivers every time.

Although Poirier came up just short against Khabib Nurmagomedov last September at UFC 242, he bounced back from the loss, and the hip surgery that followed, with a ‘W’ and a ‘Fight of the Night’ performance against Dan Hooker last month at UFC Vegas 4.

Poirier is now in a peculiar spot in the 155lbs division, where he has lost to current champion Khabib, but has also beaten the man next in line for a shot at the title, Justin Gaethje. Speaking on the Jim Rome Show (as transcribed by MMA Junkie) ‘The Diamond’ revealed that it’s going to take a big name to get him excited for his next fight.

“I don’t know; I’m not sure what the options will be when the UFC comes back and starts sitting at the table to make these matches. It just needs to be a really big name or a title fight. I’ve been doing this for ten years in the UFC, and I still love fighting, but I want these fights to mean more than just a fight. I don’t want it to just be about a show and win purse. I want it to really mean something, and I know I’m in the back nine of my career.

“I’ve been fighting for a while, I have 40 fights, and I want these last four or five years to really mean something every time I get into the Octagon. Not only for me and my family, but for the goals that I’m trying to bring awareness to and raise money for and for my career. I really want to leave a legacy.”

Who do you think the UFC matches Dustin Poirier up with next?
