UFC Fight News: Including Amanda Nunes And Paul Felder
In the last few hours, there have been several big announcements involving upcoming UFC events. Including one affecting the UFC 256 title fight main event.
UFC 256 had previously already lost its main event between Kamaru Usman and Gilbert Burns, after the champion announced he wouldn’t be fit in time. It will now be rescheduled for early 2021. After the announcement, the co-main event between Amanda Nunes and Megan Anderson was moved up to the headline bout, but this will also be rebooked in 2021 now, after the Brazilian two division champion was forced out of the December 12th card, due to a ‘serious medical issue’.
UFC 256 still currently has one title fight on the card, Petr Yan is set to make his first title defence against Aljamain Sterling, after beating Jose Aldo earlier this year at UFC 251 to win the bantamweight belt.
UFC Vegas 14
On a more positive note, this weekend’s UFC Vegas 14 main event has been saved. After Islam Makhachev withdrew from his lightweight showdown with the former champion Rafael dos Anjos after getting an infection, Paul Felder will step in on five days notice.
Felder, who was set to commentate this weekend’s fights, last fought back in February, where he lost a razor close split decision to Dan Hooker at UFC Auckland. Despite the fact that ‘The Irish Dragon’ is stepping in on such short notice, and the fact that dos Anjos’ last eight fights have been at welterweight, the fight remains at lightweight and will still be a five rounder.
Dos Anjos had previously called out UFC newcomer Michael Chandler, who declined the offer, saying he has ‘other plans’.
More good news involving this weekend’s card at the UFC APEX. After Brendan Allen lost his opponent on fight day this past weekend at UFC Vegas 13, after Ian Heinisch tested positive for the coronavirus, he gets a short notice fight this weekend. The 24 year old, who is on a seven fight win streak, will take on Sean Strickland, who is coming off a unanimous decision win over Jack Marshman less than two weeks ago at UFC Vegas 12.
Other UFC Fight News
A couple of fights have been added to UFC Vegas 15 in the last few hours. Takashi Sato will take on Miguel Baeza in a welterweight contest on the November 28th card at the UFC APEX. While Bill Algeo and Spike Carlyle are set to throw down in a featherweight clash.
Another featherweight bout has been added to the UFC’s card the following weekend. Former M-1 Global champions Nate Landwehr and Movsar Evloev are set to face off at UFC Vegas 16 on December 5th.
