UFC Fight News: Including Frankie Edgar, Greg Hardy & Claudia Gadehlha
We’re only days away from the UFC’s first card on Fight Island and while most of the headlines have evolved around Jorge Masvidal stepping in on one week’s notice to challenge Kamaru Usman in the UFC 251 main event, several other big stories have emerged in the last few hours.
Pedro Munhoz has been removed from UFC Fight Island 1, after testing positive for the coronavirus. The number seven ranked UFC bantamweight was set to welcome Frankie Edgar to the 135lbs division in the co-main event.
The UFC is believed to be looking for a last minute replacement for ‘The Answer’. And within minutes of the news surfacing online, Ricky Simon, Marlon Vera and Jimmie Rivera all threw their names into the hat to face Edgar on Fight Island.
We will bring you more on this story as we get it.
On a more positive note, we have more fun fights to look forward to. Combate has reported that Greg Hardy vs Khalil Rountree is in the works for UFC 252, which is set to go down on August 15th at the UFC APEX.
‘Prince Of War’ is coming off a unanimous decision win over Yorgan De Castro at UFC 249. While ‘The War Horse’ is coming off a first round TKO loss to Ion Cutelaba almost a year ago at UFC Copenhagen and will be making his heavyweight debut.
Combate has also reported that former UFC strawweight champion Claudia Gadelha is set to face off against China’s Yan Xiaonan on September 26th. The Brazilian is coming off back-to-back hard fought unanimous decisions wins over Randa Markos and Angela Hill. While ‘Fury’ is yet to taste defeat inside the Octagon, five fights into her UFC career. The 31 year old is coming off an impressive win over Karolina Kowalkiewicz at UFC Auckland earlier this year.
In the last hour, Khalil Rountree has taken to social media to deny he is fighting Greg Hardy. Stating that he is currently stuck in Thailand and won’t agree to any fight, anywhere until he is able to leave the country and return without any issues.
