UFC Fight News: Including Overeem, Gastelum And Condit

As we approach the end of a turbulent year, the fight announcements for early 2021 are starting to come in thick and fast. In the last few hours, several big UFC fights have been announced. Including a top six heavyweight clash, and two legends of the sport finally facing off.

January 30th

Ian Heinisch was scheduled to fight Brendan Allen last weekend at UFC Vegas 13, but was forced to withdraw on fight day after testing positive for the coronavirus. Less than a week on and he already has a new opponent lined up. ESPN has reported that he is set to face Kelvin Gastelum on the UFC’s January 30th card, in a top 15 middleweight matchup.

Heinisch is coming off a first round TKO against Gerald Meerschaert at UFC 250. Gastelum on the other hand, will be looking to get back to winning ways after losing three straight fights to Israel Adesanya, Darren Till, and Jack Hermansson.

Also set to fight on January 30th, Matt Brown and Carlos Condit are set to finally meet inside the Octagon. MMA Fighting has reported that both men have verbally agreed to the welterweight showdown. The two veterans of the sport have been scheduled to fight twice in the past, but on both occasions, ‘The Immortal’ pulled out through injuries.

After going on a seven fight win streak from 2012-2014, Brown has lost six of his last nine, and is coming off a TKO loss to Miguel Baeza at UFC Florida. The former interim champion Condit, recently ended a five fight losing skid with a unanimous decision win over Court McGee at UFC Fight Island 4.

February 6th

At 40 year old, Alistair Overeem has made it clear that he has one more title run left in him. On February 6th, the number five ranked UFC heavyweight will take on Alexander Volkov, who sits one place below him in the rankings.

Overeem is coming off back-to-back wins over Walt Harris and Augusto Sakai, earlier this year. While Volkov is coming off a second round TKO win over Harris at UFC 254 last month. The heavyweight showdown is set to be the main event.
