UFC: Garbrandt Hits Out At Dillashaw, Names Three Potential Opponents

Former UFC bantamweight champion Cody Garbrandt is eyeing a return in the spring, and has named three fighters who are on his hit list.

Garbrandt last fought at UFC 250, where he ended his three fight losing run via a vicious knockout against Raphael Assuncao. He was then scheduled to challenge Deiveson Figueiredo for the flyweight title at UFC 255, but had to pull out due to a torn bicep. ‘No Love’ then faced a series of health complications related to the coronavirus, including thrombosis, brain fog, and pneumonia, which have kept him on the sidelines.

Garbrandt’s Hit List

With his plans to return to the Octagon in the upcoming months, Garbrandt told TMZ Sports (as transcribed by BJPenn.com) that he has three fighters on his hit list.

“My hist list is Jose Aldo. Deiveson Figueiredo, and TJ Dillashaw. But he’s gotta prove himself. He’s gotta prove he can fight clean,” Garbrandt said.

TJ Dillashaw

Former bantamweight champion TJ Dillashaw, who will also be making his comeback this year after a two year doping suspension from USADA, believes he deserves an immediate title shot, but Gardbrant begs to differ.

“I don’t think TJ deserves to come right back in the mix. For a lot of reasons. You cheated the sport, you disrespected the sport,” Garbrandt opined. “You have to respect this game. I didn’t respect this game and look at what happened to me. I got knocked the f*** out in three straight fights because I wasn’t respecting the game. You were doing something that’s the worst you can do. We aren’t hitting balls, we’re in here fighting people.”

Garbrandt has lost to Dillashaw twice, at UFC 217 and UFC 227, and was finished on both occasions. Although the 29 year old doesn’t like “crying over spilled milk”, he said that his two time opponent shouldn’t call the shots after his doping scandal.

“This dude is giving himself the unlimited advantage of cardio, which in a fight is the ultimate [advantage],” Garbrandt said. “Dude, if you don’t get tired, you don’t stray away from the gameplan. I’m not sitting here crying over spilled milk but eff that dude. He doesn’t get to come in here and call the shots.”

While Garbrandt has Figueiredo on his hit list, he won’t get an immediate shot at the flyweight title as the UFC is planning a rematch between the Brazilian and Brandon Moreno, who fought out a majority draw in a slugfest at UFC 256. As for Aldo, he is hoping for a fight with Dillashaw.

Jose Aldo, Deiveson Figueiredo, TJ Dillashaw, or someone else, who would you like to see Cody Garbrandt fight next?
