UFC: Georges St-Pierre Names The Scariest Fighter On The Planet

During his 15 year career, Georges St-Pierre established himself as one of the greatest ever mixed martial artists. The Montreal native defended his UFC welterweight crown against one contender after another for years before retiring in 2013. He however returned four years later to challenge Michael Bisping at UFC 217, beating the Brit to win the middleweight belt. GSP then vacated the title a few months later, before officially retiring a year later.

The sport of MMA is stacked with incredibly talented athletes from all around the world, but St-Pierre thinks one particular fighter is pound-for-pound the scariest on the planet.

Scariest Fighter

Speaking on ‘The Joe Rogan Experience’ podcast (as transcribed by BJPenn.com), St-Pierre named Khabib Nurmagomedov as the scariest fighter in the world.

“To me, Khabib is one of the scariest to do it. Because he’s beating you down. He’s not only beating you, but he’s breaking you mentally,” St-Pierre said. “And for me, that is worse than anything. For me, he’s the scariest one pound-for-pound.”

Fighting Khabib

Ahead of UFC 254, Khabib hinted that he was eyeing a super fight with St-Pierre. However, ‘The Eagle’ announced his shock retirement after successfully defending his title against Justin Gaethje, and hasn’t looked back since.

St-Pierre was also interested in the idea of taking on the Khabib challenge, but now says that his best days are behind him.

“I would have been [interested in fighting Khabib]. But it’s over now. I was done three years ago,” St-Pierre said. “I wanted to come back for Khabib because for a fighter, the scariest thing sometimes is the most exciting thing to do. And [Khabib] is a problem that has never been solved before. But to come back for another guy and to fight for another title, then if I win it’s going to be another one and another one.

“I’m going to turn 40 years old, and I hate to admit it Joe, and I refuse to accept it, but sometimes I feel like my best years might be behind me.”

Do you agree with Georges St-Pierre, is Khabib Nurmagomedov the scariest pound-for-pound fighter on the planet?
