UFC – Henry Cejudo: Triple C’s Coming Back

Less than a year after announcing his retirement from MMA, Henry Cejudo has revealed that he’s coming back. And both the newly-crowned bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling and former champion Petr Yan, are on his radar.

Cejudo called it a career during his post-fight Octagon interview after successfully defending his 135lbs title against Dominick Cruz at UFC 249. Despite announcing his retirement, the former two division UFC champion has constantly stayed in the news by regularly calling out the likes of Sterling, Yan, and Alex Volkanovski.

Return To Fighting

Speaking to Sports Nation (as transcribed by BJPenn.com), Cejudo made the bombshell announcement.

“I would personally like to line both Petr Yan and Aljamain Curling Sterling Silver at the same time. I’d like to beat up both of them,” Cejudo said. “You guys stay tuned, man. ‘Triple C’s’ coming back! What’s up?”

Yan vs Sterling

Sterling defeated Yan this past weekend at UFC 259 to win the title, after the Russian was disqualified for an illegal knee. Giving his thoughts on the fight on Twitter, Cejudo said that ‘No Mercy’ was fighting a great fight until the disqualification, and that ‘Funk Master’ needs to make adjustments to his game.

”Aljamain Sterling. Aljamain ‘Curling Silver’ Sterling versus the ‘Ugly Potato’ Petr Yan. That fight, I thought Petr Yan was fighting a great fight,” Cejudo acknowledged. “I think kudos to him, he was patient, his defence was on. He was well aware of Aljamain’s spinning elbows, kind of knees flying through the middle – even though Aljamain did catch him once. I will say something about Aljamain Sterling.

“He tried to fight the same fight that he fought against Pedro Munhoz and that does not happen in a five round fight. So, if I was to give Aljamain Sterling, ‘Curling Silver’, some advice it is you need to understand your threshold man. You ain’t going to get rid of somebody in three, especially a caliber athlete like Yan. You need to understand your threshold. How you can finish the race correctly within five rounds.”

Apology To Sterling

Cejudo also apologised to Sterling for accusing him of playacting after eating the illegal knee in the fourth round of his fight with Yan, saying that he was ‘a little upset’ at the 31 year old for doing the post-fight interview and posing with the belt on social media after the fight.

”Anyhow, he eventually ended up getting hit with an illegal knee and that was that. I do want to apologise to Aljamain, I really do,” Cejudo said. “Because I was a little upset and a little mad, but at the same time… I was more mad at the fact that he ended up doing the interview and then the tweets and I saw the pictures with him with the belt.

“And man, it just rubbed me the wrong way. But at the end of the day it was an illegal strike by Petr ‘The Ugly Potato’ Yan and for that reason that’s just the way the fight goes. They’re going to have a rematch. I don’t think it’s going to change man.”

During the UFC 259 post fight press conference, UFC president Dana White confirmed that Aljamain Sterling and Petr Yan would have an immediate rematch. Would you like to see Henry Cejudo return and fight the winner?
