UFC: Joanna Jedrzejczyk Talks Zhang Weili Fight And Colby Covington

We are not far removed from the instant classic that was Zhang Weili vs Joanna Jedrzejczyk for the UFC women’s strawweight belt at UFC 248. It was a showcase of some of the best Mixed Martial Arts on the planet, and it left the former champion sporting a serious hematoma, come the end of the fight.

Aftermath

A few weeks on from the fight, Joanna spoke to ESPN‘s Ariel Helwani to discuss her health following the absolute barn burner. Initially, the massive hematoma on Jedrzejczyk’s head was a major concern for her.

“I was a little bit afraid. But I had a CT [scan]. I had an ultrasound. I had an X-ray. And everything is fine with my brain.”

Joanna still has bruises but says it’s not the physical side that hurts.

“Broken heart and broken soul, but no broken bones. I’m tough. I’m tough. BMF.” said Jedrzejczyk.

Joanna echoed the same sentiment during her appearance on MMA Fighting’s Eurobash podcast.

“It’s really great to hear that it’s one of the best fights and that I am someone’s favourite, but in the end I didn’t make it. I know it was close and some people are saying I won, but at the end I don’t have the belt.

“I put on a helluva performance with Weili Zhang and I’m very proud of myself. But in the end – you know I’m a very ambitious person – and I didn’t make it, man”

Chaos in Camp

Joanna Jedrzejczyk trains at American Top Team with famous names, like Jorge Masvidal and Dustin Poirier. Not to mention Colby Covington, who has been making headlines trashing all three of them.

Earlier this week Covington hit out at Joanna’s performance against Zhang Weili.

“She’s washed up, nobody cares about her. She used to be the boogie woman, now she’s the boobie woman. Look at her face. She got her face rearranged, and I called it,” Covington said.

Following Colby’s comments, ATT owner Dan Lambert introduced a zero tolerance trash talking policy at the Florida gym. Joanna however, doesn’t feel like this is enough.

“Dan Lambert should kick him out. He’s putting this place in shame. For me, the gym is like a mecca,” Joanna told Helwani.

Whilst on Eurobash, Joanna opened up a little more on her thoughts about Covington.

“It’s part of his act. He’s not a very polite or a smart guy, so he doesn’t know what to do. He needs other people to make himself big, so I don’t want to talk about this guy, you know. I can tell you guys that it’s a shame for us… it’s a shame that he’s talking crap like this. It’s all ugly things. He’s a dirty guy and I don’t want to talk about, I just don’t want to talk about it.

“He’s lying, you know. I don’t know why he’s such a big liar and I just don’t want to talk about. I don’t want to waste my time talking about him.”

While Colby Covington has apologised to Dustin Poirier for trash talking him in the past, there’s no sign that ‘Chaos’ intends to apologise to Joanna Jedrzejczyk any time soon.

Do you think the no trash talking policy at ATT be honoured?
