UFC: Jon Jones And Israel Adesanya Continue To Trade Shots

Jon Jones and Israel Adesanya have been trading shots on social media and in interviews since April. And despite ‘Bones’ taking to social media in the last couple of days to declare that he’s done replying to ‘The Last Stylebender’, we can’t see the back and forth between the two coming to an end anytime soon.

In recent months, Adesanya has stated that he will fight Jones in early 2021 in the new Allegiant Stadium, which is currently being built in Las Vegas. Interestingly, Jones seems to have accepted Adesanya’s terms, previously saying that he will see the UFC middleweight champion in 2021.

Adesanya has recently stated that he’s prepared to fight Jones sooner, if the 205lbs champion is willing to come down to 185lbs. Although this is highly unlikely to happen.

Despite the some-what agreed date, the two are showing no signs of relenting their trash talking. Taking to social media, Adesanya hit out at Jones, mocking him for testing positive for cocaine five years ago.

This appeared to be the final straw for Jones, after the UFC light heavyweight champion said he was done replying to the Adesanya and that he would get no more responses from him until 2021.

Adesanya had a simple response to Jones’ tweets, using a phrase that has been popularised in 2019, ‘OK Boomer‘. A saying used to dismiss or mock outdated or condescending attitudes of the older generation.

The new UFC middleweight champion’s response was so simple and effective, that Jones backtracked from his previous standpoint and responded to Adesanya.

Something ‘The Last Stylebender’ was quick to pick up on, as the shots continued to be fired between the two UFC champions.

If the war of the words continue and both Jones and Adesanya continue to win in 2020, we will have one helluva fight to look forward to in early 2021.

In the last few days, UFC president Dana White has confirmed that Jones will defend his light heavyweight title against Dominick Reyes on February 8th in Houston, Texas. Which is believed to be UFC 247. Adesanya is also expected to defend his new title in early 2020. Although there has been no official announcement, it is expected that the 29 year old will defend his title against Yoel Romero.

Update:

Since publishing this post, Jones and Adesanya have gone back and forth again, by posting ‘look-a-like’ photos of each other.
