UFC: Justin Gaethje Fires Back At Tony Ferguson
After losing to Justin Gaethje and Charles Oliveira in his most recent fights, Tony Ferguson is looking for vengeance.
Gaethje snapped Ferguson’s 12-fight win streak by finishing him in the fifth round at UFC 249 to win the interim lightweight title. While Oliveira added insult to injury at UFC 256, cruising to a lopsided unanimous decision victory over ‘El Cucuy’.
Gaethje And Oliveira Rematch
With the lightweight title picture wide open, now that UFC president Dana White has finally accepted that Khabib Nurmagomedov has no intentions of fighting again, Ferguson is making sure he stays in the discussion. Taking swipes at both Gaethje and Oliveira on Twitter, the 36 year old said that he’ll see them soon.
“I’ll give you elite, f*** you Justin Gaethje and Charles Oliveira,” Ferguson tweeted. “You didn’t finish s***. Told you I’d see you soon. Crew. Much easier to see the targets when they are in front. Beyond disciplined. New camp, new times.”
Gaethje Responds
Gaethje clearly wasn’t too impressed with Ferguson’s comments, and told him to rewatch their UFC 249 main event to jog his memory.
“Charles couldn’t finish you but I certainly did. Check the tape champ,” Gaethje responded.
While Ferguson is keen to run it back with Gaethje and Oliveira, both fighters are realistically out of his reach at the moment.
Gaethje hasn’t fought since being submitted by Khabib at UFC 254, but is looking to bounce right back into the title picture, and has named five fighters he would be interested in fighting. Namely Michael Chandler, Conor McGregor, Nate Diaz, Rafael dos Anjos, and Oliveira.
‘Do Bronx’ is on an eight-fight win streak and wants his next fight to be for the title, ideally against Dustin Poirier, who TKO’d McGregor in the second round at UFC 257 last month. Oliveira recently turned down a short-notice fight with Chandler at UFC 258, with his coach saying that the fight made “no sense” without the title on the line.
