UFC – Khamzat Chimaev To Conor McGregor: Send Me Location
Undefeated 26 year-old Khamzat Chimaev made a huge name for himself last month, scoring back-to-back wins in just ten days. The welterweight prospect first accepted a short notice fight at middleweight against John Phillips at UFC Fight Island 1. Before taking on Rhys McKee at UFC Fight Island 3, in a welterweight contest.
What made this even more impressive is that Chimaev completely dominated and finished both of his opponents in spectacular fashion, while landing a total of 192 strikes and receiving only two back.
Speaking to TMZ Sports, The Chechen-born resident of Sweden opened up on the popularity and recognition he’s received in the last couple of weeks.
“It’s crazy brother, now I’m in Sweden,” Chimaev said. “I was outside today in my city, and everybody screamed like ‘Aaa you gonna smash everybody, you can smash Conor’, they’re coming to me, take pictures, it’s crazy. It’s been crazy now.”
Beef With Conor McGregor
It didn’t take a long time for Chimaev to get the attention of the biggest superstar in the UFC, Conor McGregor, who tweeted and deleted an insulting message calling him a “rat lip”. The two went back and forth, and the Irishman verbally accepted to fight the young up-and-comer.
During the UFC Vegas 5 pre-fight media scrum, UFC president Dana White confirmed that McGregor’s cryptic tweet was in reply to Chimaev. However, Ariel Helwani has since reported that he has spoken to Conor, who informed him that his tweet wasn’t aimed at ‘Borz’.
Soon after Helwani tweeted this, McGregor tweeted ‘tinatanggap ko’, which is Filipino for ‘I accept. Implying that he’s accepting a boxing contest with Manny Pacquiao.
Nonetheless, when Chimaev was asked if he has a message for McGregor, his answer was pretty straightforward.
“Let’s fight. Don’t talk, and fight. If you’re a real gangster, and a real man, don’t talk in Instagram. Just come in the cage, talk in the cage, and say something to me.
“You’re sitting in Ireland, and talk to me because I’m sitting in Sweden. We can meet in Abu Dhabi right now, Las Vegas, send me location like Khabib said. I come and smash your face.”
Confident And Ready
Although he has only two fights in the UFC, Chimaev is confident that he would dominate McGregor right this instance.
“Man right now, this second brother, I can go smash this guy,” he said. “If they (the UFC) give me, I would be so happy brother. It’s easy fight for me, I know I can beat every fighter [in the] top ten.
“I don’t see somebody can stop me,” Chimaev continued. “I gonna finish everybody there. And Conor McGregor, I gonna finish him first round brother. I promise you brother, I can finish him in first round.”
Drawing The Line
Chimaev admitted he likes certain things about McGregor, but there are some places where he draws the line.
“I can’t say like I don’t like him. I like when he, like, speak too much, like it’s show, show like show, you know. It’s good to see what he do. But when he go to family, this one I don’t like. I don’t like he hit old people.
“He did good things for MMA, you know like, we make, people make more money with MMA. It’s good things also.”
