UFC: Masvidal Hoping To Fight Conor In May, Mayweather In November

This time last year, Jorge Masvidal was on a two fight losing skid and hadn’t fought in over a year. Fast forward a year and he is arguably the biggest star in the UFC. Not content with an incredible 2019, ‘Gamebred’ has even bigger plans for 2020. Namely fighting both Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather.

Talking to TMZ Sports, Masvidal was asked about Dana White’s recent comments that McGregor wants to fight him.

“That’s one of the lottery tickets we’re possibly going to cash in on.”

Although Masvidal stated that a fight against McGregor would be a huge fight, it wouldn’t pay him as well as taking on Mayweather in a boxing contest.

“Nah, it’s not the biggest lottery ticket, but it’s one of the lottery tickets.”

“Me versus Mayweather [would be the biggest lottery ticket]. I want cash money. I got children and those children’s got needs. And I love to fight man and one of my first loves growing up was boxing. And then I fell in love with wrestling and then UFC came about. And I was like, ‘Wow, I can do them both of them at the same damn time.’ So I fell in love with the UFC and that’s all I’ve done, the MMA. But I can box my ass off.”

“I’m not saying I’m a better boxer than Mayweather but man, I’m gonna be in there with bad intentions trying to hurt him. I’m a well-conditioned athlete who’s not going to fade. I’m not going to fade in the eighth of ninth round [like McGregor did against Mayweather]. I’m going to be there for the whole night. I want to get into the biggest, toughest, roughest fights that I possibly can and make a pay cheque for them as well, get compensated for my skills.”

Asked if he had a message for Mayweather, Masvidal said that if he’s not looking for an easy fight, and wants a challenge, he’s the man.

“If you’re looking for a fight, I’m right here. If you’re looking for an easy pay cheque, then go back to Japan and beat up those little guys [like Tenshin Nasukawa], man.

“Mayweather’s done so much, I could never discredit that guy. He’s done tremendous things. I’ve grown up watching the guy. If he wants to fight someone who’s going to come give it his all and try to execute him and get him out of there, that’s the only thing I’m trying to do is turn his lights off, it’s me man,” Masvidal stated.

“If you want to fight a guy like Khabib [Nurmagomedov], who doesn’t know how to box. His strength is to wrestle. He doesn’t ever box. He doesn’t beat guys boxing. If he wants to fight that guy, I get it, man. Mayweather has paid his dues, he can do whatever the hell he wants. But if he wants something he has to get up for early in the morning, train in the morning, train at night, that’s me, man. If you want something easy man, then yeah, get the other dudes.”

The newly crowned Baddest Mother F***er concluded by outlining his big plans for 2020.

“Hopefully it will be Conor in April/May and then they were talking about Mayweather returning in November. That would be a pretty good year, you know. We’re going to call 2020 the year of the lottery.”

Masvidal’s incredible run in 2019 started with a stunning knockout of Darren Till at UFC London. This was followed by his infamous flying knee knockout of Ben Askren at UFC 239. Then just last month, he topped it off by outclassing Nate Diaz at UFC 244, to win the BMF belt. And if all of that wasn’t enough, he even dished out a ‘three piece and soda’ to Leon Edwards backstage at UFC London.

Do you think Jorge Masvidal could realistically fight Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather in 2020?
