UFC: Max Holloway Wants Another Shot At Alex Volkanovski

To prove he is the better fighter, former featherweight champion Max Holloway is willing to compete against the reigning champion Alex Volkanovski, one hundred times if he has to.

Holloway lost the title to Volkanovski at UFC 245 exactly one year ago. The two then faced each other in an immediate rematch at UFC 251 in July, with the Australian bagging a controversial split-decision victory.

Volkanovski Trilogy

While UFC president Dana White is open to a third fight between the two, Volkanovski wants to focus on other contenders for now. However, Holloway told EPSN that he has his eyes fixed on the reigning champion, and wants to fight him again to prove that he’s the true 145lbs champion.

“If it was Kobe [Bryant] and Michael [Jordan], they would play ten times, just to let people know who the best is,” Holloway said. “That’s the mentality I strive for. If you want to run it back 100 times, we can do it. I’m gonna show you I’m the better guy. I don’t know what kind of mentality [Volkanovski] has, but I know what I want to do and what kind of legacy I want to leave.

“This guy is sitting at a place that’s not right with me. I don’t feel like it’s right. Are we gonna fight again? It’s up to him. If I had it my way, I’ll fight you ten times in one night, ten times once a month. I’m a competitor. I need to compete. I truly believe I was put on this earth to fight and compete.”

Fighters Score Rematch In Holloway’s Favour

Holloway has moved on from his tough split-decision loss to Volkanovski, but he did find comfort in the fact that many prominent names in the MMA community believe he won the second fight.

“They were sticking their necks out for me,” Holloway said. “And these aren’t fans, they’re fighters. Jorge [Masvidal], Nate [Diaz], Dustin [Poirier], Justin [Gaethje], the list goes on. [MMA managers Ali Abdelaziz and Malki and Abe Kawa.] All these guys cannot agree on what colour the sky is, but they agreed on one thing that night.”

Holloway is set to face Calvin Kattar in the main event of the UFC’s January 16th card on Fight Island. As for Volkanovski, there is no news regarding his next fight, but he is expected to fight Brian Ortega next, who is fresh off an impressive win against ‘The Korean Zombie’ at UFC Fight Island 6.
