UFC Targeting Daniel Cormier vs Brock Lesnar For UFC 240

After months and months of speculation, it looks like we are close to seeing Daniel Cormier vs Brock Lesnar. Cormier has made it clear that he wants to fight Lesnar before he retires and Lesnar has expressed his desire to return to the UFC.

Although both men want the fight, it wouldn’t be the UFC without several hurdles to overcome. In this instance, Cormier has been injured, Lesnar is still under contract with the WWE and has also served a one year suspension from USADA, for a pair of positive drug tests before and after UFC 200.

As well as the suspension, Lesnar also had to enrol in the USADA testing pool for six months, before he was able to compete again. The former UFC heavyweight champion enrolled last summer and has been able to compete again since January.

Speaking on Sports Center, ESPN’s Ariel Helwani, reported that the UFC is targeting the heavyweight title fight for August.

“The UFC wants [Lesnar] back, as of right now he wants to be back, they’re giving him a heavyweight title fight if he comes back. Daniel Cormier, the heavyweight champion, wants to fight him. Right now, the plan is for them to fight in August, later this summer, for that heavyweight championship. It’s not signed just yet, but that’s currently the plan.”

Although Lesnar beat Mark Hunt at UFC 200, the result was overturned to a no contest, after the failed drug tests. It was the first time Lesnar had fought since losing in 2010 and 2011.

DC fought three times in 2018. He defended his UFC light heavyweight title against Volkan Oezdemir, then beating Stipe Miocic to win the UFC heavyweight title. Before defending the title with a win over Derrick Lewis.

If the two were to fight in August, it would be at UFC 240. No details of the exact date or venue have been announced for UFC 240 as of right now.
