UFC – Winkeljohn: Jones Beats Adesanya Because Of His Skill And Size

Despite the fact that 2021 seems awfully a long way away, Israel Adesanya and Jon Jones have seemingly agreed to fight then. During the ongoing war of words between the two UFC champions, ‘The Last Stylebender’ announced that he would fight ‘Bones’ in early 2021 at the new Allegiant Stadium, currently being built in Las Vegas.

Surprisingly, Jones seems to have accepted Adesanya’s terms. Although according to his coach at JacksonWink MMA Academy Mike Winkeljohn, by early 2021, it may be too late. The UFC light heavyweight champion may have already moved up to heavyweight. And if he has, it’s unlikely that he would move back down to 205lbs.

“That would be up to Jon if he stays at light heavyweight. If Jon goes up to heavyweight by then, it is hard to bounce back down. It is not that easy to change 15-pounds efficiently and still fight. We have to make a decision of going up and fighting for the belt or staying at 205 and cleaning out the division until Adesanya wants to come up,” Winkeljohn told BJPenn.com.

Should Jones and Adesanya remain on a crash course to face each other in 2021, in what would be a huge super fight, Winkeljohn believes that his man will be too skilful and big for the current UFC middleweight champion.

“I think it might happen. That young man needs to get bigger and gain some weight because Jon just dwarfs him. Jon beats him in so many places because of his skill and size. But, Israel is an incredible striker, there is no doubt about it, and has good wrestling defence. But, he needs to gain weight before he thinks about fighting Jon. Like everybody, he is looking to challenge the top dog to get his name out there and the top dog is Jon. If it happens, it is down the road.”

How do you think Jon Jones vs Israel Adesanya goes?
