Whittaker vs Adesanya Is Set To Go Down At UFC 243

As soon as Israel Adesanya defeated Kelvin Gastelum at UFC 236 to win the UFC interim middleweight title, UFC President Dana White stated that he wanted the unification title fight with Robert Whittaker to take place in a stadium in Australia.

The Dutch MMA website MMA DNA, has reported that the unification bout will go down at UFC 243, at the Bankwest Stadium in Sydney, on October 6th.

The report comes the day after the UFC confirmed that UFC 242 will take place in Abu Dhabi on September 7th. It is also believed that the UFC will have pay-per-view shows on July 27th and August 17th.

When UFC 233 was cancelled in January of this year, Dana said that it wasn’t officially cancelled and that it was merely postponed. Later on, the UFC boss confirmed that the UFC would host any extra PPV show in the summer, which will effectively be UFC 233 rescheduled.

Whittaker vs Adesanya is the biggest fight in Australia/New Zealand history. The Bankwest Stadium has a capacity of 30,000. As with most previous cards in Australia, UFC 243 is expected to go down in the morning local time. Meaning that it will air prime time on October 5th in the US.

The stadium doesn’t have a roof, unlike the Marvel Stadium (formerly know as the Etihad Stadium), which hosted UFC 193: Rousey vs Holm.
