UFC 249 went down on Saturday night at the VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, Florida. The UFC returned after a 56 days hiatus, as a result of the coronavirus. In the main event, Justin Gaethje looked outstanding, stopping Tony Ferguson in the fifth round. ‘El Cucuy’ showed an unbelievable chin but it was ‘The Highlight’ who had his hand raised to win the interim lightweight title, and will now face the UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov, later in the year in a unification bout.
The UFC 249 co-main event will see Henry Cejudo defended his bantamweight tile against Dominick Cruz, stopping the former champion in the second round. And then shocked the world by announcing his retirement from the sport.
Elsewhere on the stacked UFC 249 card, Francis Ngannou knocked out Jairzinho Rozenstruick after just 20 seconds of the very first round of their heavyweight clash and ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone lost his rematch to Anthony Pettis, in a razor close unanimous decision..
Ahead of the card, Jeremy Stephens missed weight by 4.5lbs and ‘Jacare’ Souza was pulled from his fight with Uriah Hall, after testing positive for the coronavirus.
