Alex Volkanovski Reacts To Holloway vs Edgar Booking

In the last couple of hours, Alex Volkanovski has taken to social media to comment on the news that Max Holloway will defend his UFC featherweight title against Frankie Edgar at UFC 240.

After his dominant win over Jose Aldo at UFC 237 in Rio de Janeiro earlier this month, the general consensus was that the Australian deserved the next shot at Holloway’s 145lbs title.

However, whilst the former rugby league player was laid up in a hospital bed in Chile with a bacteria infection, the UFC announced that Edgar would challenge Holloway for the belt.

Now that Volkanovski is back at home in New South Wales, Australia, he has taken to Twitter to comment on the fight booking.

Volkanovski’s comments comes a few days after he posted a video update on the bacteria infection that had delayed his trip home.

On one hand, you can see why Volkanovski would be annoyed to miss out on the title shot next, it’s very hard to argue that Edgar deserves a shot ahead of Volkanovski. As much as everyone loves ‘The Answer’, he has only won once in the last two years. In that same period, Volkanovski has won six times and dominated the former champion, Aldo.

But on the other hand, like he says, the plan is for for his next fight to be against the winner of Holloway vs Edgar for the title later in the year, most probably on the Robert Whittaker vs Israel Adesanya card in Australia. So as long as anything crazy doesn’t happen, he should be challenging for the title in his next outing to the UFC Octagon.

What are your thoughts on the UFC giving Frankie Edgar the title shot ahead of Alex Volkanovski?
