Evander Holyfield Is On Board To Fight Mike Tyson

Evander ‘The Real Deal’ Holyfield reigned as the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world during the early 90s, after successfully stepping up from cruiserweight. He remains the only boxer to have become the undisputed champion in two weight classes and retired as the WBF heavyweight king.

However, Holyfield garnered a lot of his fame from his two bouts with Mike Tyson in the golden era of boxing. In their first fight, he successfully out-boxed ‘Iron’ Mike and forced the stoppage in the eleventh round.

But it was during their second fight that Tyson decided to bite a chunk out of Holyfield’s ear. That moment became one of the most controversial incidents in sporting history and is still widely discussed by fans and media today.

Evander Holyfield and Mike Tyson

Tyson and Holyfield have both recently expressed an interest in coming out of retirement to fight in some exhibition bouts. Which has ignited rumours that the two could once again step into the boxing ring together.

Speaking to TMZ Sports, Holyfield appeared open to the idea.

“You know, it wouldn’t bother me to do so because three rounds you know… I did it for 12 or 13 years for free. So I’m always thinking that the person who takes care of themselves well… they tend to be the ones that tend to last. Even though I’m four years older than him, it won’t be no problem”

Holyfield shared what he knows about the potential bout so far.

“My manager… they been talking all that. The fact is, you know with me personally, I think that’s for me to ask”.

Despite the bad blood between the two fighters decades ago, they have since made up and regard each other as friends.

“Well yeah, I would think so you know. Life’s about trusting each other. There’s a lot of things that me and Mike did that works. I still feel that I was the best in my era”.

When asked if the ear incident still bothered him, Holyfield laughed, “The ear only represents the $35,000,000 I got paid for nine minutes”

Do you think that a trilogy fight between Evander Holyfield and ‘Iron’ Mike Tyson will go ahead?
