UFC 248 Medical Suspensions

UFC 248 went down this past weekend at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. But while Israel Adesanya vs Yoel Romero headlined the card, it was the co-main event between Zhang Weili and Joanna Jedrzejczyk that stole the show.

On Monday, the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) released the medical suspensions for UFC 248. And not surprisingly, both Zhang and Jedrzejczyk were both on the list of fighters who received suspensions. After going to war for 25 minutes, both women have been suspended for two months, with no contact until April 22nd.

On the night, it was Zhang who had her hand raised, winning via split decision. And in doing so, defended her strawweight title. Both the champion and former champion were taken to hospital immediately after the fight. Although both were released without any many injuries diagnosed.

Despite the main event being a lot less eventful than the co-main event, Adesanya received a minimum suspension of almost two months. And although he retained his middleweight title by way of unanimous decision, ‘The Last Stylebender’ is required to have both his feet x-rayed, with a potential longer suspension, depending on the results.

His opponent, Romero, finished the fight with his right leg looking in a terrible state. Despite this, it would appear that ‘The Soldier Of God’ only received a mandatory seven day rest period.

Those not listed above, received a mandatory seven day rest period. While it may have raised a few eyebrows when it was announced that Romero didn’t receive a longer suspension from Adesanya’s leg kicks, the 42 year old has just posted a video of him already running on his leg.

The length of the medical suspensions are just precautionary in many cases. Fighters are able to return earlier if they receive medical clearance.
