Angela Lee Discusses Sharing ONE Cards With Her Brother Christian
ONE atomweight champion Angela Lee comes from a family of martial artists. Her parents have black belts in various disciplines and her younger brother Christian Lee, is the reigning ONE lightweight champion.
They have competed on same card multiple times, the last one being ONE: Century in October last year. That night, Angela defended her belt against Xiong Jingnan and Christian won the ONE Lightweight World Grand Grix, defeating Saygid ‘Dagi’ Arslanaliev as a short notice replacement.
Talking to MMA Junkie, Angela Lee reflected on that amazing experience.
“I don’t think we’re going to be able to top that event,” Angela said. “It was truly a special moment, not just for Christian and myself, but for our family as well. And for everyone to be there together and witness [it], that was just so special.”
However, as they have both continued to reach new levels of success, competing on the same card has got to be a bit too much, according to Lee.
“Honestly, it’s getting more and more difficult. Christian and I, we’re used to competing with each other. We have been ever since we were small, but now that it’s on a much bigger scale, we’re both world champions and each fight will be a world championship title defence. It’s getting a little bit more difficult, more stressful,” Lee explained.
“Our last fight in October, we really had to talk it over with our family and see if it was something that we were able to do,” she added. ”Luckily, with the fights in between myself and Christian, we were able to do it but it was still pretty close. But yeah, we love fighting with each other. When it’s good, when we both win, it’s great. But sometimes it’s just a bit stressful.”
It was thought that Angela would defend her title against Denice Zamboanga, and Christian would defend his belt against Iuri Lapicus at ONE: Infinity 1, on May 29th in Manila. However, with the global coronavirus pandemic situation, everything is uncertain right now.
Do you think we’ll see Angela and Christian Lee compete on the same ONE card again?
