Rodtang Has The Perfect Opponent In Mind For Jonathan Haggerty
ONE flyweight Muay Thai champion Rodtang Jitmuangnon, is still undefeated inside the ONE Circle (7-0). ‘The Iron Man’ earned the title by defeating Jonathan Haggerty at ONE: Dawn Of Heroes in August 2019. His last fight was a rematch against ‘The General’ at ONE: A New Tomorrow last January, which he also won, this time by TKO in the third round.
Speaking to ONE Championship, Rodtang had only the words of praise for the Brit, despite having two wins over him.
“He is the best foreigner in Muay Thai. When I think about Haggerty or when I hear his name. I always think back about how we shared the ring. It’s one of the best memories of my life.”
The Jitmuangnon Gym representative would like to see Haggerty take on the former ONE flyweight kickboxing champion and number five ranked ONE Muay Thai flyweight, Petchdam Petchyindee Academy. He has faced ‘The Baby Shark’ twice at the Rajadamnern Stadium, so he knows both of them both very well, which makes him confident that it would be a fun match.
“I want to see him and Petchdam fight,” Rodtang said. “I think it would be a very close fight and amazing for the fans to watch. There are many Muay Thai fighters in this weight class who can fight with Haggerty, but from my point of view, I think Petchdam would be the best match.”
The 22-year-old Thai explained why the match between ‘The General’ and ‘The Baby Shark’ would be great to see.
“It would be fun to see both of them fight each other. Petchdam and Haggerty were both already ONE World Champions – one was the kickboxing champion and one was the Muay Thai champion. Also, they have a similar age, body type, and fighting style, and their hearts are very similar, too.”
Haggerty and Petchdam would probably both like to challenge ‘The Iron Man’ for his ONE Muay Thai crown, but Rodtang has set his sites on the ONE flyweight kickboxing title, currently in possession of Ilias ‘Tweety’ Ennahachi
